CAMBODIA'S INDUSTRIAL SECTOR EXPECTED TO SURPASS 2026 GROWTH TARGETS

September 2, 2026 — Both public and private sector leaders expect Cambodia’s industrial sector to surpass economic growth forecasts in 2026, driven by strong momentum in export-oriented subsectors, particularly non-garment manufacturing, alongside steady expansion across related industries.

While initial projections set industrial expansion at 7.2 percent for the year, the Ministry of Economy and Finance revised the first-half forecast slightly downward to 6.9 percent. Despite these macroeconomic adjustments, key subsectors continue to record remarkable performance.

According to the assessment report for H1 2026 from the finance ministry, first-half official figures revealed that non-garment manufacturing exports surged by nearly 38 percent, significantly outperforming full-year subsector projections of 10.3 percent. https://web.facebook.com/share/p/1Bb561yucn/

AMBASSADOR: THAI DIPLOMATS SEEK TO KEEP CAMBODIA-THAILAND BORDER DISPUTE OFF FRANCOPHONIE SUMMIT AGENDA

September 2, 2026 — Cambodian Ambassador to France Luy David has firmly rejected an alleged attempt by a Thai diplomat to persuade Cambodia not to raise the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute at the upcoming Francophonie summit.

Luy David disclosed the diplomatic lobbying effort in a social media post as Cambodia prepares to host the 20th Summit of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) in Phnom Penh later this year. The summit is expected to bring together leaders from nearly 90 member states.

“How absurd! The ambassador of ‘House No. 2’ attempted to have an ambassador from a third country persuade me not to raise the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute at the Francophonie forum,” Luy David wrote. https://web.facebook.com/share/p/1838ZhnAYv/

CAMBODIA REJECTS THAI SELF-DEFENSE CLAIM, SAYS ATTACK WAS PREMEDITATED

September 1, 2026 — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense has categorically rejected the claims by Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sonjaidee, director of Thailand’s Joint Information Centre, that Cambodia was the side that fired first, calling them unfounded and false.

According to Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense, it was the Thai side that first launched an unprovoked armed attack against Cambodia.

The ministry said Thailand, which initiated the attack against Cambodian territory, could not portray itself as the victim while invoking self-defense as a pretext to justify and demonstrate the legality of its unlawful military actions. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Bpa4CG5zV/
